June 18th will be a day to remember for Lilach Bullock from Ask Lilach. Having been short-listed in the Mother @ Work Awards, Lilach will be attending the awards ceremony at Downing Street where Sarah Brown, the PM's wife is expected to attend. Lilach said about the short-listing: "It can be difficult to juggle the demands of a growing business with family life. I do hope making it to the short-list will encourage many more Mums to fulfil their ambitions to set up and run their own business - it's hard work but hugely rewarding." Lilach is short-listed for the Best Mumpreneur award which recognises working mothers who run their own successful business. Ask Lilach was set up in 2006 to provide Virtual Assistants and training for VAs Sarah Brown is once again supporting the awards and said: "I am delighted to lend my support once again to the mother@work Awards for 2008. Past winners have been inspirational and innovative in their approach to making the lives of working mothers and their families better and I am sure that this year will be no exception. These awards offer a tremendous example of how businesses and working mothers can come together to develop family-friendly policies and working practices, and all the winners deserve our congratulations and praise." The mother@work Awards were established to show individuals and employers how straightforward it can be to accomodate the needs of working mums while not detracting from but enhancing business. They also showcase the best in 'mumpreneurship' by recognising the pioneering working mums who are also successful business owners. But it's not all about business. Without the input and support of their families, many working mothers would not be able to do what they do. This is their chance to say thanks. Not to mention individual working mums who have come though hardship or dealt with huge obstacles to get their lives on track. Founder and editor of mother@work Denise Tyler added: "These awards were set up four years ago to literally lead by example. We hope that in acknowledging the best practices in the workplace today, with respect to working mothers, we can show others how family friendly policies need not be to the detriment of business. We also hope to show other working mums that they too can succeed as an entrepreneur if they want to and also give families and individuals the recognition they deserve."
